A professor and supervisor in Ecnomics at Xiamen University. Professor Hu was born in 1937 in Yongkang City of Zhejiang Province, graduated from Xiamen University in 1960. He is the current director of Institute of Economics, Xiamen University, Chief Editor of Economic Issues in China, member of Economic Branch, committee of Academic Degree, the State Council, member of Committee of Academic Degree, Fujian Province and member of consulting Committee for Art and Social Sciences, Minister of Education.

Professor Hu Peizhao's research subjects focused on economic theories such as Commodity Economy, Market Economy and Reform of Chinese State-owned Enterprises. He has published over 10 monographs and 200 academic papers in his research career. His unprecedented theory of Designed Commodity Economy won the 1st Sun Yefang Prize in Economic Science. Due to the academic achievements he gained, he was granted the honor of National Expert with Outstanding Contribution in 1985 and Fujian Distinguished Expert in 1990.
